The biggest city in Côte d’Ivoire
Abidjan is the economic capital of Côte d’Ivoire and the region’s most populous French-speaking city. It is located on the south-east coast, on the Gulf of Guinea, on the Ébrié Lagoon. Characterised by a high level of industrialisation and urbanisation, the city is home to over 4.7 million people, 20% of the entire population of Côte d’Ivoire.
The most populated district in the country
With a total population of 1,071,543*, Yopougon is the most populated municipality in the city as well as the country. It is also the only commune of Abidjan that spans both north and south sides of Ébrié Lagoon.
